Fabio Carito — Brazilian bassist — has been part of Metalium since the band's revival in 2023. Metalium is a German power metal band with a well-defined body of work: eight records between 1999 and 2009, numbered as chapters of a continuous narrative, all steered by bassist and composer Lars Ratz, who died in 2021. Taking over the bass in this band means occupying precisely the founder's position. It is a specific responsibility. In power metal the bass works locked to the double bass drum at constant speed, holding the base over which guitars and vocals operate; it is a barely exposed instrument, but its failure dismantles the whole song live. The revival line-up brings Brazilian and Portuguese musicians together with the remaining Germans. It is the kind of arrangement that has become common in contemporary European metal — bands assembled out of international networks rather than closed local scenes. For Brazilian musicians it means direct access to a circuit that was once practically unreachable from Brazil.
