Frédéric Leclercq — born in France in 1978 — was DragonForce's bassist between 2005 and 2019, and is one of the widest-ranging musicians in contemporary European metal. His fourteen-year stay covers the band's period of greatest reach: he joined shortly before Inhuman Rampage (2006), the record of "Through the Fire and Flames", and stayed until Extreme Power Metal (2019). Besides the bass, he contributed as a composer — an unusual function for a bassist in a band whose writing was concentrated in the founding guitarists. He is a multi-instrumentalist, and that defines his career. He plays guitar at lead level, and after leaving DragonForce took precisely that position in Kreator, one of the four central bands of German thrash metal — a change of function and of genre that few musicians manage. He also keeps Amahiru and death metal projects of his own. That breadth — fast power metal, German thrash, death metal, composition — places him among the most versatile players of his generation, and explains why he moved between bands of such different purposes without sounding out of place in any of them.
