Glen Cato Møllen

Glen Cato Møllen — Norwegian bassist — is a co-founder of Circus Maximus and the band's bassist across its whole discography. The bass in progressive metal carries a responsibility that does not show: it is what has to preserve legibility when the music changes metre and key without warning. In Circus Maximus, whose repertoire combines complex structures with wide melodic choruses, that role is more demanding still — the bass must follow the passages of instrumental virtuosity and, in the next section, give plain support to a melodic-rock vocal line. Møllen is on The 1st Chapter (2005), Isolate (2007), Nine (2012) and Havoc (2016). With the Haugen brothers and Michael Eriksen he makes up the core that has stayed intact since the band formed in Oslo in 2000 — a constancy uncommon in any genre, and rarer still in progressive metal, where line-ups tend to turn over.
