Glenn Barry — Kamelot's bassist between 1992 and 2009 — was in the band throughout its international rise. His seventeen years cover Kamelot's transformation from a local Florida project into a worldwide reference in symphonic metal. He recorded The Fourth Legacy (1999), Karma (2001), Epica (2003), The Black Halo (2005), Ghost Opera (2007) and Poetry for the Poisoned (2010) — the entire run of the Roy Khan era, including the two concept albums based on Goethe's Faust. His function in that repertoire is among the hardest to notice and the most structural. Kamelot builds its tracks on orchestra, choir, symphonic keyboards and heavy guitars, and the sonic spectrum is practically saturated before the bass comes in. It falls to him to define the harmonic floor beneath all that mass and to keep an audible reference in arrangements that change character several times within the same track. He left in 2009, a few years before Kamelot lost Roy Khan and had to rebuild — closing the line-up that recorded the albums for which the band is best known.
