Ivan Guilhon

Ivan Guilhon — Brazilian bassist — was part of Tribuzy, the band formed in Rio de Janeiro around vocalist Renato Tribuzy. The group produced Execution (2005), a concept album bringing the Brazilian band together with international heavy metal guests — a rare arrangement for a production made in Brazil, and rarer still for a debut. The repertoire is heavy metal of classic descent, without the symphonic ornaments or constant speed of the power metal dominating the national scene at the time. In this kind of music the bass works locked to the kick drum, marking the pulse and giving the riff its body — a barely visible function, but one that decides whether a band sounds heavy or merely loud. Tribuzy also recorded a live album. It is a short discography, but it corresponds to a concrete attempt to place Brazilian metal in the same production field as the international circuit, rather than treating it as a peripheral scene.
