Jason James — Welsh bassist — was Bullet for My Valentine's original bassist, part of the band's classic line-up from 2003 to the mid-2010s. He is on The Poison (2005), Scream Aim Fire (2008), Fever (2010) and Temper Temper (2013) — the four records that took the group from Bridgend, Wales, to the main stages of European festivals and to substantial sales in the United States, something few British metal bands of its generation achieved. Besides bass he sang backing vocals, which in metalcore is no detail: the wide choruses that characterise the genre depend on layers of voice, and reproducing them live requires the whole band to sing. He left the group in 2015. Bullet for My Valentine's classic line-up — Matt Tuck, Michael Paget, Michael Thomas and James — is the one that defined the sound the band is known for, and the longest period of stability in its history.
