Jon Eberhard

Jon Eberhard — American bassist — is part of I Prevail, a band formed in Michigan in the early 2010s. His function in the repertoire is to hold the foundation beneath one of the densest productions in contemporary American heavy rock. I Prevail works with very low-tuned guitars, layers of electronic programming and two vocalists of opposite registers — the spectrum is practically occupied before the bass comes in, and it falls to him to define the harmonic floor without competing with anything. There is also the demand for precision the format imposes. The tracks alternate between sections of extreme weight, wide melodic choruses and electronic passages, and the bass has to follow the drums with exact articulation in each of them — in productions built from layers, any imprecision in the foundation compromises the whole arrangement. Eberhard joins the group in the phase when I Prevail consolidated itself among the most listened-to names in the genre, with records that entered the American charts and earned Grammy nominations.
