Marco Panichi

Marco Panichi — Brazilian bassist — was part of Hibria's classic line-up between 1996 and 2010, and is one of the band's founders. He was on the two records that established the group: Defying the Rules (2004) and The Skull Collectors (2008). These are the works that took a band from Porto Alegre — outside the Rio–São Paulo axis and without major-label backing — on tours in Europe and Japan. His function in the repertoire is more exposed than in other bands of the genre. Hibria plays a metal of technical cut, with riffs abandoning the predictable formula and changes of metre within the same track, and the bass and drum foundation has to follow those turns without losing the pulse. It is not the symphonic power metal format, where the bass doubles the guitar in unison and disappears into the mass. His fourteen years in the band coincide with the most stable line-up period in Hibria's history — the core that recorded the albums for which the group is known.
