Peter Baltes was Accept's bassist across two long periods, between 1976 and 1989 and between 1992 and 2018 — more than forty years in total, which makes him, alongside Wolf Hoffmann, one of the band's two pillars. Born in 1958, he took part in writing much of the classic repertoire with Hoffmann, and his contribution is not limited to bass: he sang lead on some tracks, among them "Winter Dreams" and material from the period when the band experimented with more melodic vocals. His instrument fulfils a supporting function in a repertoire of heavy riffs and collective choruses, with a full tone and direct execution. He was on every album of the classic phase — Restless and Wild (1982), Balls to the Wall (1983), Metal Heart (1985) — and also on the whole comeback phase begun with Blood of the Nations (2010). He left Accept in 2018, ending the longest partnership in the band's history.
