Sean Tibbetts — born in the United States in 1970 — is Kamelot's founding bassist and returned to the band in 2009, after almost two decades away. He was in the initial Florida line-up in the early 1990s, when Kamelot was still a local project playing a genre — European symphonic power metal — that barely existed in the United States. He left before the band recorded its widest-reaching records, and returned precisely when the group was already an international reference. That return came on the eve of the most critical moment in Kamelot's history: shortly afterwards, Roy Khan left the band for health reasons, and the group had to rebuild around a new vocalist. Tibbetts recorded Silverthorn (2012), Haven (2015), The Shadow Theory (2018) and The Awakening (2023) — the whole Tommy Karevik phase. His function in symphonic metal is to hold the harmonic foundation beneath layers of orchestra, choir and guitar that occupy almost the entire spectrum. It is work noticed only in its absence, but without which dense arrangements like Kamelot's would lose their floor.
