Ted Lundström — born in Sweden in 1974 — is Amon Amarth's founding bassist, in the band since 1992 and on its entire discography. With Johan Hegg and Olavi Mikkonen he forms the core that has kept the group working for over three decades without a change of direction — a rare thing in a genre where bands tend to reinvent themselves or dissolve. His function is defined by the band's sonic logic. Amon Amarth builds its songs on mid-tempo riffs with long, clear melodies, and the bass has to give weight to that ground without competing with the two guitars playing the harmonised lines. Lundström plays with a full tone and constant attack, anchoring the harmony while the rest of the arrangement moves. That restraint is what lets Amon Amarth sound heavy and melodic at once — a combination that defined the group's identity and took it from Swedish clubs to the largest European festivals.
